Thoughts on Episode 1 - The 7 Wonders of Crysis 3

Gone are the days where we sit and wait in anticipation of a video game alone. Nowadays, we've got tons of gameplay footage, cinematics and teasers, and even episodic shorts to expect. Here's what I thought...

Not much can be said about the hype of the next installment of the Crysis franchise. Because everyone already knows the massive scale the last one was built on. According to Cvet Yerli, Crytek went all out on Crysis 3 (on consoles) leaving only 1% of juice left in the machine. Which makes sense since the Crysis games are famous for melting motherboards (metaphorically speaking). Therefore, you can expect Crysis 4 (if there's even gonna be one) to burn your brains.

So in anticipation and to build hype around the game - which I'll be honest people really don't care about save for the hardcore fans - Crytek released Episode 1 of it's 7 Wonders of Crysis 3.

I don't know about you but Prophet's voice is ear-burstingly awesome. Almost as brilliant as Bane's (Tom Hardy) in The Dark Knight Rises. Hearing him narrate while marveling over the lush environments is so worth the 4 minutes. Personally, I found the colors to be a bit bleached. Even in 720p playback. What the reason was for washing the colors out of an otherwise vibrant environment is beyond me. Crysis 2 was all about graphics. It was THE best looking game on console - and one of the reasons for that was it's vivid colors. Yes, I'm comparing a short film to a video game as a whole. That's because this short film is pieced together with actual gameplay - a great idea for showing off the game's familiar mechanics. Although, the color problems appear throughout both the gameplay AND the cinematic. This better not be the case with the finished product, I'm telling you Crytek!

Check it out!
